15 Oct Taggart’s Double Ensured a Stalemate in Newcastle
Former Jets striker Adam Taggart hits a double against his old team, as Perth came from behind to steal a point against Newcastle tonight at McDonald Jones Stadium.
However, It was Glory who had a good early start to the game through a Diego Castro cross from inside the byline, which saw Taggart on the right from 5 yards out beating two Jets defenders, and giving Glory the early lead after 8 minutes.
The home side equalised the game through new striker Roy O’Donovan who scored his fourth goal of the campaign, and got the game back on even terms.
It became a possession based game between both midfields up until the end of the half, with Glory failing to capitalise on two golden opportunities with Newcastle defenders Nigel Boogard and Daniel Georgievski getting the better of the front third, with both teams being kept at a stalemate with 1-1.
Jets forward Kosta Petratos had an early chance at the start of the second half to give the hosts the lead, the shot however didn’t worry Glory keeper Liam Reddy who made a great save.
Newcastle made it 2-1 after Nikolai Topor-Stanley’s shot hit the upright, with central midfielder Ben Kantarovski tapping it in to give the home side the lead after 60 minutes.
Young Jets goalkeeper Jack Duncan was kept busy with Glory’s attack on the goals, but denied Adam Taggart twice with two magnificent shots to keep his side in front.
A late strike from Adam Taggart to secure his double for the match in the 92nd minute, to ensure that the Glory would rescue a point away from home, and the game ending at 2-2.
