22 Oct Glory’s Miraculous Comeback
Perth Glory have come from behind for a 2-1 win against Central Coast Mariners at nib Stadium, escaping with three points.
It was a great effort from Paul Okon’s men, but tired legs and dispossession cost the away side vital points. Mariners looked strong early.
Asdrubal had an opportunity 45 seconds into the game to put the Mariners 1-0 up early on, but couldn’t control his footing as Liam Reddy got at the end of it for Perth Glory.
It was all Mariners for the first 15 minutes of the game, as the away side broke the deadlock through Wout Brama from a fantastic team goal lead by Danny De Silva. De Silva passed it left of the box to Connor Pain who found Brama, with Brama putting it away.
Glory pressed later in the first half through Diego Castro with the Glory midfielder trying his best to equalise before half time, but the Mariners held on for a 1-0 lead at the end of 45.
Castro and Glory had another opportunity in the second half in the 61st minute, with the former asking for a penalty after he looked to be fouled in the box. The VAR decision ultimately decided against him, and was given a goal kick to the Mariners.
Nine minutes later, Glory equalised through Andy Keogh from a fantastic Adam Taggart cross. Momentum swung back to the boys in purple heading into the last 20 minutes.
15 minutes later Adam Taggart – who set up the last goal for Andy Keogh – put the winner away for Glory, with the 24 year old striker putting Perth in front.
From there Glory kept the young Mariners at bay, with most of them having sore legs and unable to keep up with the more experienced Glory. The boys in purple got the three points in a 2-1 win.
