28 Oct Roaring Comeback from Brisbane
Brisbane Roar have come from behind to rescue a point against Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium in a 3-3 draw on Saturday night.
The home side started sublimely through Dario Vidosic who crossed in for a Andrija Kaludjerovic header to open the scoring for the Nix inside 67 seconds.
Wellington made it 2-0 inside 18 minutes with a Roy Krishna super strike from outside the 18 yard box, and John Aloisi’s men looked weary early on in the match.
The Phoenix looked to have iced the game in the 21st minute with another Kaludjerovic tap in from a superb Roy Krishna cross, and the Roar looked in trouble.
Brisbane wasted chance after chance heading into half time, but it was Italian striker Massimo Maccarone who salvaged a goal for the visitors before the end of the half.
Brisbane came to life, and got the game back on their terms from an Avraam Papadopoulos tap in. Poor keeping from Keegan Smith who saved the set piece free shot from Fahid Ben Khalfallah.
Brisbane got a penalty after being fouled in the box, only for the Italian Maccarone to score a brace and his second to equalise the game at 3-3.
Roar had one more opportunity through Khalfallah who hit the post in the dying stages of the game, and in Luke Devere’s 100th game for the Roar escape with one point out of New Zealand in the end.
