03 Dec Mariners Go Back to Back Against Glory
It took a Danny De Silva and Blake Powell off the bench goal but the Central Coast Mariners have back to back wins for the first time this season, taking the victory 1-0 against Perth Glory.
It was a slow start from both sides, with the game very much possession-based for the bulk of the first half.
Kwabena Appiah looks to be a staple for the Mariners, and looked impressive in the first half for the home side. Mitch Nichols created a rare opportunity for the Glory before the end of 45 but couldn’t capitalise.
Glory looked to be the team to break the deadlock with possession staying down their end in the first ten minutes of the second half. They had some chances from the corners, but Ben Kennedy and the Mariners defence was solid.
Paul Okon’s men broke the deadlock from a Blake Powell tap in, after he and De Silva linked up in front of the goal.
Glory blooded an academy player in Yagoub Mustafa who came on late for a tired Joe Knowles with Glory looking to have run out of legs.
Mariners have back to back wins for the first time in a long time, and have secured a spot inside the top 4. They’ll take on another team who got a win in Melbourne City, next Sunday night at AAMI Park.
Perth Glory take on the Newcastle Jets at nib Stadium next Saturday night, and will look to bounce back against the Jets who are also coming off a deflating loss.
