07 Dec Mark Schwarzer’s EPL Update for Optus: Derby set to light up Manchester
Mark Schwarzer joins Sportsday to chat all things EPL thanks to Optus.
There was plenty on the agenda this week, with Manchester heating up for the Derby this weekend.
“When you look at the form, particularly of Manchester City – I think it’s 13 out of 14 games they’ve been unbeatable… some of the best football that’s being played around the world at the moment.” said Schwarzer.
“Manchester United losing Paul — to a red card last week is a massive, massive blow… but you can’t always just rely on current form, it’s about the occasion. Who deals with it the best… and teams often lift themselves to another level.”
The competition remains relatively even, with the top 5 still open.
“If you want to include Burnley, which is the real surprise packet of the season… we want a healthy competition throughout the course of the season, the more teams involved in those places the better it is.”
Many were surprised by Tim Cahill’s decision to walk away from Melbourne City.
“I was a little bit [surprised], his time at Melbourne City of late has been mixed… he started one game of the new season. At his age… it’s imperative that he plays more regularly. For him to have any opportunity to play at the World Cup next year, he needs to get game time under his belt.” said Schwarzer on his ex-teammate.
