Archie Thompson and Jonno Nash look closely at the outcomes from Round 9 of the 2017/18 Hyundai A-League season while casting their eye ahead to Round 10 action.

On Friday night, title favourites Sydney FC made it three in a row with a 1-0 victory over Adelaide United thanks to a first-half Bobo winner in testing conditions.

The Sky Blues have moved five points clear of the second-placed Newcastle Jets, who despite a go-ahead goal from the in-form Andrew Nabbout, were beaten 2-1 by Melbourne City who have cemented themselves in third.

Melbourne Victory were staring down the barrel of another loss when they were two goals down to the Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand but rallied with three second-half goals to win 3-2.

The season of the Western Sydney Wanderers continues to stall after a 2-0 home loss to the Brisbane Roar while things keep getting better for the Central Coast Mariners who impressed in a 1-0 triumph over Perth Glory.
