14 Dec Archie’s Hat-Trick: Are Melbourne City contenders or pretenders?
Archie Thompson and Jonno Nash look back on an interesting weekend of Hyundai A-League action with an even more intriguing Round 11 ahead.
League leaders Sydney FC were dominant over Western Sydney Wanderers with a 5-0 drubbing in the derby which included a brace from Polish ace Adrian Mierzejewski, allowing the Sky Blues to retain a five-point lead over the competition.
In second position sit the Newcastle Jets, who pinched three points from the Perth Glory with two very late goals to win 2-1, while Melbourne City stayed within reach in third spot by beating Central Coast Mariners 1-0 courtesy of Ross McCormack’s 7th goal of the season.
There was more heartache for Melbourne Victory, who despite a stunning Mark Milligan strike, lost 2-1 at home to Adelaide United who finished the contest with just nine players.
And the winless run of the Wellington Phoenix extended to three matches following a 0-0 draw at Brisbane Roar.
It was the hot form of Sydney and poor showings of the Victory which caught the eye on Archie’s Hat-Trick:
