Hayden Foxe departs the Wanderers after loss to Jets

Former Caretaker and assistant coach Hayden Foxe has walked out on the Wanderers, after being thrashed 4-0 by the Newcastle Jets last night.

It is understood that Foxe had resigned effective immediately after the final whistle, which puts more pressure on new coach Josep Gombau who has only won one game from six matches as coach.

Foxe only managed one win and four draws as caretaker coach, and had desires to takeover permanently.

Wanderers under Gombau have only scored 3 goals and conceded 14 goals in the last six games under Gombau’s tenure.

Ernie Merrick’s Newcastle Jets turned it on last night at home, and from kickoff dominated the game. They netted the first goal of the game through Johnny Koutroumbis from inside the 18 yard box.

After Half Time the Jets slammed on three goals in 25 minutes through Jason Hoffman, Ben Kontarovski and Steven Ugarkovic.

The win for the Jets secured them three points, and are two points behind Sydney FC in second position on the ladder.

Wanderers Chief Executive Officer John Tsatsimas paid tribute to the former Socceroos defender over the course of the last three seasons.

“Hayden has been a fantastic member of our club’s backroom staff since his arrival in 2015,” said Tsatsimas.

“We wish Hayden every success in his coaching future.”

The Wanderers are now languishing in 8th position on 11 points, with Gomabu’s men hosting Melbourne City New Years Day at ANZ Stadium.
