21 Jan Delightful Night for City as United Sink
Melbourne City have dominated in a 5-0 win against Adelaide United at AAMI Park.
A seven minute onslaught and three goals sealed the game halfway through the final moments of added time.
City started without central striker and injury replacement Ross McCormack, who had an achilles problem from last week’s game.
It was a slow start from both sides with United trying to play a slow pace style, while City were playing four from the back and pace on the sides.
Adelaide had an opportunity to silence the City fans through 18-year-old Apostolos Stametopoulos one-on-one with Dean Bouzanis, which went wide.
After that it was all City, with Budzinski scoring the first through a set-piece free kick deflection outside the box. Five minutes later Budzinski scored his brace through a team effort, with a Nick Fitzgerald cross to a Dario Vidosic header.
The home side began proceedings with a shot 30 seconds into the second half through young attacker Daniel Arzani. On a sour note for City, they lost star midfielder Nathaniel Atkinson – who had another standout game – to a horrific lower leg injury.
Playmaker Dario Vidosic sunk the United defence with two incredible goals as a result of the Reds’ poor defending. City striker Ross McCormack score an amazing goal inside the 18-yard box to join in on the fun for the home team.
The Reds will be without speedster Isaias after the Spaniard accumulated his fifth yellow card of the season, and will miss the game against Wellington next week.
The win for City propels them back into the top three. City return to AAMI Thursday night against the second-placed Newcastle Jets in the match of the week. United head to Westpac to take on Wellington Saturday afternoon.
