Okon Resigns as Mariners Coach

Central Coast Mariners have been rocked with Paul Okon’s shock resignation as senior coach, effective immediately.

It has been a tough year for Okon and his side after a promising start to the season, only to be sitting second bottom.

The former Socceroos defender joined the Mariners after the club sacked Tony Walmsley after a disastrious 2015/16 campaign.

Okon has only managed 10 wins, 13 draws and 27 losses in his 50 games as manager of the Central Coast, and are sitting in second last with only four wins for the season.

Okon said,“I will forever be grateful to the Mariners for the opportunity they gave me. I thank the players for their commitment and the fans for their support. Finally, I wish the club all the best in the future.”

Assistant coach Ivan Jolic has also resigned effective immediately from the club.

Mariners National Youth Coach Wayne O’ Sullivan will be caretaker coach of the club for the remainder of the season.
