23 May Taking Cahill and Arzani to World Cup a must says Ange
Former Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou says there should be “no debate” about taking Tim Cahill and Daniel Arzani to the 2018 World Cup.
Despite Cahill’s lack of game time over the past few months, and Arzani’s youth, Postecoglou believes both players bring undeniable talents to the squad.
“You take them both,” he told SEN’s Whateley.
“He wasn’t played a lot, but I think knowing Tim, and I haven’t spoken to him in probably six months, he will still be in very good condition.
“Looking at the make-up of the squad, there still isn’t a lot of goal scoring threats there.
“You have to take him. Even for the impact he can make even in parts of a game, I think you have to take him.
“Timmy is always the one I had as break the glass when needed and use him in those kind of situations.
“I don’t think that’s changed, I think you can still use him in those areas.

“There shouldn’t even be a debate about Arzani.
“We have very few players like Daniel Arzani.
“There is nothing to lose in taking him along.
“I don’t think he takes a spot of a player who would be a starting player, he takes a spot of a player who would be on the fringes anyway.
“I wouldn’t think it’s a decision between Tim Cahill and Arzani. That shouldn’t even be a debate, with what he has shown so far and the potential that he has.
“Whether he kicks on from here or not will be up to the kid himself, but to give him that experience and that exposure, for Australian football when we have so few like him, it would be an opportunity missed.”
