Herald Sun chief soccer writer David Davutovic has highlighted the key for each team’s chances in the FIFA World Cup final between Croatia and France on Monday morning.

Davutovic says the game will come down to a moment of individual brilliance, but believes each team’s chances rely heavily on being able to stop two of the standout performers in the tournament thus far.

France’s Kylian Mbappe and Croatia’s Luka Modric have arguably been the two best players in Russia and containing their influence is top priority for each team.

“From France’s viewpoint it will be about winning the midfield battle and closing down the space for Luka Modric and Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitić,” Davutovic told SEN Mornings.

“From Croatia’s viewpoint with regards to stopping France, it’s (Kylian) Mbappe.

“He’s just been scintillating, he’s so quick and if you give him too much space, he can absolutely tear you up.

“He’s also got skill to get around players if you play him too close but it really will be about a collective effort and the way they defend and set up the defensive block.

“I think it will come down to a moment of individual brilliance, I think that’s what will ultimately decide the World Cup final.”
