22 Aug Melbourne Victory dumped out of FFA Cup by NPL club
Melbourne Victory have been sensationally dumped out of the FFA Cup by semi-professional club APIA Leichhardt, going down 3-2 at Leichhardt Oval last night.
The NPL club, based in Sydney’s west, recorded the biggest upset in Cup history to progress to the final eight at the expense of the reigning A-League champions.
APIA attacker Tasuku Sekiya netted the underdogs’ opener in the 9th minute before doubling the home side’s lead just after half-time.
A quick-fire brace from Victory striker Kenny Athiu restored parity for the visitors, before defender Nathan Milligate etched his name into Cup history by heading home the winning goal for the Tigers in the 80th minute.
