A-League needs to help Socceroos says Sorensen

Former Melbourne City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen says the A-League needs to do a better job at helping the Socceroos establish a greater amount of young talent.

Sorensen played for City between 2015-2017, and while he acknowledged the competition exceeded his expectations, he believes a better link between national league and national team needs to be created.

“I think there’s a lot of good players, a lot of good young players as well,” Sorensen told SEN Breakfast about the quality of the A-League.

“We need to give them a better chance in the A-League with more teams because I think the national team needs a bit of help. That can only come from the A-League being really successful.

“I think it’s at a good level, there’s certain things that need to change.

“Hopefully now with the FFA going through a bit of transformation, hopefully that can sort of put a new growth spurt into the league.

“The way to structure more teams, but I think the standard surprised me which I got down here.”
