Victory superstar Honda will only get better, says Valeri

Melbourne Victory captain Carl Valeri says we still haven’t seen the best of marquee signing Keisuke Honda.

Honda has had a hand in all three of the Victory’s goals in the opening two rounds of the A-League season, netting on his debut against rivals Melbourne City before providing two assists against Perth last week.

In an ominous warning to the rest of the A-League competition, Valeri believes the Japanese icon still has a lot more to give, as the reigning champions look to pick up their first win of the campaign away at Newcastle on Saturday night.

“Keisuke’s fantastic, he’s a true professional,” Valeri told SEN Afternoons.

“He’s brought a lot of enthusiasm to everyone at the club just with the way that he works, I love playing with him.

“He’s one of the best players I’ve played alongside, and I think he’s going to get better.

"He’s great for the A-League and I think he’s great for young kids to watch. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve with Keisuke.”

Honda has created 10 chances in the first two weeks of the new A-League season – the most of any player in the league.
