Honda gets rockstar reception after Sydney FC winner

Melbourne Victory marquee man Keisuke Honda was mobbed by a large contingent of Japanese fans following his match-winning goal against Sydney FC on Sunday.

After being fouled in the penalty area, Honda calmly slotted the subsequent spot-kick to hand the Victory all three points in their 2-1 win over the Sky Blues.

The playmaker was greeted by hundreds of Japanese fans as he departed Jubilee Stadium to enter the team bus an hour after the final whistle.

Kevin Muscat’s men have won three games on the bounce on the back of Honda's scintillating form – who now has three goals and three assists from five appearances.

Next up for the reigning champions is a home match against Western Sydney Wanderers at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

Honda update, for Kubota – Building Australia.
