Round 6 A-League preview

The A-League table is beginning to take shape with Perth Glory the only unbeaten side remaining after the opening six rounds.

Here’s a preview of this weekend’s A-League matches:

Adelaide United v Brisbane Roar
Friday November 30th, Coopers Stadium, 7:50pm

Adelaide will look to make it back-to-back wins against a Brisbane team who recorded their first success of the season against Melbourne City last week.

The Roar have a good record against the Reds, having won their previous two encounters and seven of their last 11 trips to South Australia.

With Brisbane striker Adam Taggart hitting form, the visitors will fancy themselves to claim all three points on their travels.

Tip: Adelaide 1 Brisbane 2

Central Coast Mariners v Sydney FC
Saturday December 1st, Central Coast Stadium, 5:35pm

Sydney have dominant recent record against Central Coast – having lost just one of their last 12 games.

The Sky Blues will be keen to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Melbourne Victory, while the Mariners are still waiting for their illusive first win of the new campaign.

Steve Corica’s side should return to the winners circle on the back of their superior firepower in attack.

Tip: Central Coast 0 Sydney FC 2

Melbourne Victory v Western Sydney Wanderers
Saturday December 1st, Marvel Stadium, 7:50pm

Melbourne will look to make it four wins in a row when they meet a Western Sydney side searching for back-to-back away wins for the first time in over three years.

The Victory have well truly hit their stride thanks to the superb form of marquee man Keisuke Honda, but worryingly, are winless in their past six matches at Marvel Stadium.

Kevin Muscat will have his charges focused in order to break this cycle of results at the venue.

Tip: Melbourne Victory 2 Western Sydney 0

Wellington Phoenix v Perth Glory
Sunday December 2nd, Westpac Stadium, 5:00pm

Perth are flying at the present time, sitting four points clear at the summit of the A-League table, with four wins from their opening five games.

After an encouraging start, Wellington have fallen off the pace on the back of three consecutive defeats, but can take comfort from their recent good form against the Glory, having won two of their previous three meetings.

The league leaders will be eager to break that drought and claim the all-important three points to further enhance their championship credentials.

Tip: Wellington 1 Perth 2

Melbourne City v Newcastle Jets
Sunday December 2nd, AAMI Park, 7:00pm

It’s been a difficult week for Melbourne City, with coach Warren Joyce coming under fire for his handling of star striker Bruno Fornaroli.

City sit two points above the Jets and will see this as an opportunity to give themselves some breathing space between them and the chasing pack.

Newcastle have won just one of their last 10 meetings in this fixture, but will see this as a chance to heap further misery on Joyce and the misfiring Sky Blues

Tip: Melbourne City 1 Newcastle 2
