“Question marks around their relevance”: Bolton slams “farcical” Central Coast

Former Socceroos goalkeeper Clint Bolton has questioned the relevance of the Central Coast Mariners after their appalling 2018 campaign.

The Mariners recorded just one win for the entire year with their last victory coming all the way back on the 23rd of February, 2018.

Languishing on the bottom of the A-League table without a win after 11 games, Bolton says Mike Mulvey's side aren’t bringing any value to the competition both on and off the field.

“It’s something that has gone beyond the point of being angry, annoyed and frustrated with the Central Coast, who are underperforming and should be adding greater value to the A-League,” Bolton told the Football Nation pre-game show.

“The whole point of a salary cap system is that every team adds value – Central Coast aren’t. There’s got to be big question marks around their relevance, not only on the park and that’s obvious to see, but off the park.

“There needs to be some serious pressure on (Mike) Charlesworth – the owner of Central Coast – and what this club stands for going forward.

“Are things going to change? If not, do we seriously look at them remaining in the A-League? In the meantime, they provide these little laughs along the way: the goalposts on New Year’s Eve, the 45-minute delay, fireworks going off – it’s farcical.”

Central Coast face Wellington on Saturday as they look to notch their first win of the season.
