11 Jan Round 13 A-League preview
Round 13 of the A-League is upon us with some fascinating fixtures to look forward to in what should be another action-packed weekend of football.
Here’s a preview of this weekend’s A-League matches:
Melbourne City v Brisbane Roar
Friday January 11th, AAMI Park 7:50pm AEDST Live on SEN+
Melbourne City will look to extend their unbeaten run when they host a Brisbane Roar side in urgent need of a win.
City came from behind to beat Newcastle 2-1 last outing to make it four games without defeat while the Roar squandered a two-goal lead against the Melbourne Victory.
Brisbane’s only win this season came against Warren Joyce’s men, but expect City to secure maximum points this time around.
Tip: Melbourne City 2 Brisbane Roar 0
Wellington Phoenix v Central Coast Mariners
Saturday January 12th, Westpac Stadium, 5:35pm AEDST
Wellington are the warm favourites heading into their encounter against a struggling Central Coast team.
The Phoenix earned an impressive 3-2 away win against Western Sydney mid-week and look to be heading in the right direction under coach Mark Rudan.
The same can’t be said for the Mariners who remain winless this season and have failed to keep a clean sheet in their past 17 matches.
If Wellington are to continue their push for a finals berth, picking up maximum points against the bottom placed Mariners is an absolute must.
Tip: Wellington 3 Central Coast 1
Melbourne Victory v Newcastle Jets
Saturday January 12th, AAMI Park, 7:50pm AEDST Live on SEN+
Melbourne Victory will look to bounce back when they host Newcastle at AAMI Park.
Kevin Muscat’s charges suffered a 2-0 away defeat to Adelaide mid-week and need a win to stay in touch with league leaders Perth Glory.
The Jets have gone three games without a victory and cannot afford another defeat as they already sit seven points outside the top-six.
A Victory win seems the likely outcome in this one.
Tip: Melbourne Victory 2 Newcastle Jets
Sydney FC v Adelaide United
Sunday January 13th, Jubilee Stadium, 6:00pm AEDST
Sydney FC face a rejuvenated Adelaide United side in what looms as the match of the round.
The Reds downed Victory 2-0 in their mid-week clash while the Sky Blues were swept aside by pace setters Perth Glory 3-1.
United will be keen to break their winless run against Sydney, having last tasted victory in this A-League fixture way back in 2016.
Steve Corica’s side have been leaking goals in recent times, so the visitors will fancy their chances of taking something from the game.
Tip: Sydney FC 2 Adelaide United 2

Perth Glory v Western Sydney Wanderers
Sunday January 13th, nib Stadium, 8:00pm AEDST
League leaders Perth Glory will look to solidify their position at the summit of the A-League table when they host an out-of-form Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Glory extended their lead at the top to six points with a comfortably 3-1 win over Sydney and face a Wanderers team who are winless in five games.
Tony Popovic will be urging his team to guard against complacency as they continue their charge towards securing the Premiers Plate.
Tip: Perth Glory 3 Western Sydney Wanderers 0
