Socceroos forward could miss remainder of Asian Cup

Chief soccer writer at The Herald Sun, David Davutovic, says Socceroos forward Andrew Nabbout could miss the remainder of the Asian Cup due to a groin injury.

Nabbout's groin strain kept him out of Australia's opening two grouo games, but the Urawa Red Diamonds attacker has reportedly aggravated the injury at training and his Asian Cup campaign is now in serious doubt.

"(Andrew) Nabbout looks like he could be gone for the rest of the tournament," Davutovic told SEN Mornings.

"He had a groin strain which kept him out of the first two games and he’s just tweaked it again at training.

"He will be monitored and assessed by the physios, you can’t replace him now, so they’ll obviously give him every opportunity and hope that they go deep into the tournament and perhaps getting im back for the Quarter-Finals or Semi-Finals, if they get through that far."

The 26-year-old recently returned from a dislocated shoulder he sustained during last year’s World Cup.

Australia face Syria on Wednesday morning at 12:30 AEDT as they look to cement a spot in the Round of 16.
