16 Jan Mariners snaps 327 day losing streak with win over Melbourne City
The Central Coast Mariners’ A-League winless drought is over, after a late winner from Matt Simon gave the club their first victory in 327 days.
The 2-1 upset win over Melbourne City didn’t come without nerves for the Mariners, after a Lachlan Wales goal in the 77th minute leveled the scores.
Connor Pain scored the first goal of the match in the 32nd minute.
Simon’s late winner came via a penalty, which was initially saved by Eugene Galekovic, before Simon followed up and scored on the rebound.

It was Central Coast’s first win since February 23, 2018.
“The football club’s gone on that long without results, but you get that kind of result and it just proves to the boys that you can beat anyone on your day,” Simon said on Fox Sports.
“It’s all about belief. Winnings a habit.
“We’ve got to take that win and put it into our players’ minds that we can win football games.”
The Mariners will be aiming to start a winning streak when they face Brisbane on Sunday night.
