Round 14 A-League preview

Round 14 of the A-League is upon us with some fascinating fixtures to look forward to in what should be another action-packed weekend of football.

Here’s a preview of this weekend’s A-League matches:

Western Sydney Wanderers v Adelaide United
Friday January 18th, ANZ Stadium 7:50pm AEDST

Western Sydney will be searching for their first win of 2019 when they face Adelaide United at ANZ Stadium tonight.

The Wanderers have failed to secure maximum points since the turn of the year with hopes of a finals berth worsening by the week.

A United win will increase the gap between the two clubs to 10 points and almost cement the Reds a spot in this year’s finals series.

The must-win nature of this match could inspire Markus Babbel’s men to secure an all-important victory.

Tip: Western Sydney Wanderers 2 Adelaide United 1

Sydney FC v Newcastle Jets
Saturday January 19th, Jubilee Stadium, 5:35pm AEDST Live on SEN+

Both Sydney and Newcastle have plenty to play for ahead of this weekend’s meeting at Jubilee Stadium.

The Sky Blues will look to stay in touch with Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory at the top of the A-League ladder, while the Jets need to start picking up wins or risk falling off the pace for a top-six spot.

Sydney FC are undefeated in their last eight home Hyundai A-League games against the Newcastle Jets and expect that trend to continue on Saturday.

Tip: Sydney FC 2 Newcastle Jets 0

Melbourne City v Perth Glory
Saturday January 19th, AAMI Park, 7:50pm AEDST Live on SEN+

Melbourne City will look for a quick response after their embarrassing midweek loss to bottom-placed Central Coast.

The defeat to the Mariners was a major setback for Warren Joyce’s side who are now six points behind Sydney FC in fourth place.

Perth were given a scare last week against the Wanderers but rallied late, scoring four second-half goals to complete a dramatic 4-3 win.

City are winless in their last four matches at AAMI Park and the Glory will look to take another big step towards securing the Premiers Plate.

Melbourne Victory v Wellington Phoenix
Sunday January 20th, AAMI Park, 5:00pm AEDST Live on SEN+

If their last duel was anything to go by, expect this Sunday’s clash between Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix to be another thrilling contest.

The two shared the spoils in a high-octane match in Round 10 and the Phoenix will look to turn to tables on the in-form Victory this time around.

Kevin Muscat’s men thrashed Brisbane 5-0 on Tuesday night and are hot on the heels of league leaders Perth Glory.

Expect the home side to get the three points but not without a fright from the Kiwis.

Tip: Melbourne Victory 3 Wellington Phoenix 2

Central Coast Mariners v Brisbane Roar
Sunday January 20th, Central Coast Stadium, 7:00pm AEDST

Central Coast finally broke their drought!

After getting the better of Melbourne City, the Mariners will look for back-to-back wins against a Brisbane Roar side who were on the receiving end of a 5-0 shellacking from the Victory.

A loss would see the Roar fall to the bottom of the A-League table so their is plenty of pride at stake for both clubs.

With the feel-good factor back at Gosford, Mike Mulvey’s charges can sniff another victory here.

Tip: Central Coast Mariners 2 Brisbane Roar 1
