Western Melbourne announce first marquee A-League signing

New A-League team Western Melbourne have announced their first marquee player signing for next season, with Panagiotis Kone joining the club.

Kone starred for Greece in the 2014 World Cup, while also enjoying spells with Italian clubs Udinese and Bologna.

The 31-year-old has agreed to a two-year deal with Western Melbourne.

“I am delighted to secure Kone for our new club,” Western Melbourne soccer chief Lou Sticca said, according to the Herald Sun.

“It shows tremendous faith by Kone to sign on not only as our first marquee but as our first player full stop.

“Kone will be a great ambassador for our new club, for the A-League and for the respected and substantial number of Victorians of Greek heritage.”
