Western Melbourne confirm signing of Socceroos defender

The Western Melbourne Group has confirmed the signing of Western Sydney Wanderers and Socceroos defender Josh Risdon on a two-year deal.

Risdon is the first Australian player to join the expansion club ahead of their inaugural season in the A-League.

The 26-year-old brings a wealth of experience having won 14 caps for Australia and has made over 160 appearances for both the Wanderers and Perth Glory.

“I’m absolutely stoked to be the first Australian player to join Western Melbourne,” Risdon told Western Melbourne’s official website.

“With the signing of Panagiotis as the marquee, I can see the club has big ambitions both on the park and off it

“With their own boutique stadium being built, which I think is a great idea, the club has an exciting future.

“I’m a hard worker who understands that the fans in the West of Melbourne want players who’ll give absolutely 100% for the shirt. I can’t wait to start doing that.”

Western Melbourne will enter the A-League in October this year after being one of two successful bids to be granted a licence by the FFA.
