“What are they?”: Hill slams City’s lack of identity

Fox Sports football commentator Simon Hill says Melbourne City are in the midst of an identity crisis and the fans are “completely offside” with the way the club is being run.

City have won just once from their past eight outings as pressure mounts on embattled coach Warren Joyce, who comes out of contract at the end of the season.

Marquee striker Bruno Fornaroli was finally released by the club after his long-running feud with Joyce, having not featured for the Citizens since November.

“The issue for Melbourne City is bigger picture stuff for me. Melbourne City – what are they at the moment?” Hill told SEN Afternoons.

“What is their identity? Apart from not being Melbourne Victory, where do they want this club to do? Because I think the fans are completely offside at the moment with Melbourne City.

“They’ve got repair that relationship if they’ve got any pretentions of being a major force in the city of Melbourne.”

Fifth-placed City take on league leaders Perth Glory at AAMI Park on Sunday night.
