A-League split round preview

Round 21 of the A-League is upon us with some fascinating fixtures to look forward to in what should be another action-packed weekend of football.

Here’s a preview of this weekend’s A-League matches:

Brisbane Roar v Western Sydney Wanderers
Friday March 8th, Suncorp Stadium, 7:50pm AEDST

Brisbane and Western Sydney kick-off the second part of the split round under lights at Suncorp Stadium.

Both clubs are out of the finals race and are seeking to end the season strongly.

The Roar defeated Central Coast 5-3 in a thrilling encounter in their last outing, while the Wanderers earned a 1-1 draw against league leaders Perth Glory.

Markus Babbel’s men are unbeaten in three and have shown drastic improvement in recent weeks.

The last time these two met it ended in a 2-2 draw back in January.

Tip: Brisbane Roar 1 Western Sydney Wanderers 2

Central Coast Mariners v Wellington Phoenix
Saturday March 9th, Central Coast Stadium, 7:50pm AEDST

Wellington will look to solidify their place in the top six when they travel to Gosford to face Central Coast.

A Phoenix win would see them go five points clear of seventh-placed Newcastle with six rounds remaining.

Mark Rudan will be seeking an improved effort from his charges after they went down 1-0 to Sydney in their last match.

The Mariners are still languishing in last with just one win next to their game from 20 games in a dismal campaign.

Wellington will look to snap winless run of four games against Mike Mulvey’s men in Gosford.

Tip: Central Coast Mariners 1 Wellington Phoenix 3
