13 Mar WATCH | Juventus star Ronaldo destroys Atletico Madrid with Champions League hat-trick
Juventus are through to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals on the back of an inspirational Cristiano Ronaldo performance.
The Italian giants trailed Atletico Madrid 2-0 after a first leg defeat in Spain a fortnight ago but the evergreen Ronaldo, 34, turned on the class with a match-winning hat-trick in the return leg in Turin.
The Portuguese superstar gave Juve hope when he fired home a header at the back post in the 27th minute.
Early in the second half, the tie was on level terms courtesy of another Ronaldo header, this coming with help from goal-line technology after Atletico keeper Jan Oblak had seemingly kept the former Real Madrid hero at bay.
With less than five minutes remaining in regular time, the comeback was complete.
Juve’s Federico Bernardeschi was felled in the area by Atleti sub Angel Correa, allowing Ronaldo to step up and finish emphatically from the spot, sending the Bianconeri faithful into raptures in the process.
It continued Ronaldo’s dominance against Los Rojiblancos over the years, taking his tally to 24 goals in 33 outings.
