A brace from Lionel Messi has orchestrated Barcelona’s 5-1 thrashing of Lyon in their Champions League Round 16 second leg at the Camp Nou.

After a scoreless draw in the first leg, the Spanish giants flew out of the blocks and took an early lead via a Messi spot-kick.

Philippe Coutinho doubled their advantage on 31 minutes before Lucas Tousart’s volley gave the French outfit hope on the hour mark.

The tie was put beyond doubt when the mercurial Messi netted Barca’s third in mesmerising fashion, before turning provider for Gerard Pique and Ousmane Dembele’s late goals.

It’s the 12th consecutive time the five-time champions have progressed to the quarter-finals in the competition.

Ernesto Valverde’s side will find out their last eight opponent on Friday where they will face either Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, Juventus, Ajax or Porto.
