“Who sanctioned it?”: Bosnich demands answers for SCG pitch debacle

Mark Bosnich has called for Football Federation Australia to provide greater clarity as to who inspected the SCG pitch before Saturday night’s game between Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory.

The state of the SCG surface has come in for fierce criticism after Victory midfielder Terry Antonis suffered a knee injury on a piece of uneven re-laid turf.

It led to the Professional Footballers Australia releasing a statement, demanding an independent investigation into how the pitch was deemed suitable to play on.

“The FFA are the ultimate ones who sanctioned the pitch. I would like to know from the FFA: Who sanctioned it? Who are the experts? And was there a pitch inspection prior to the game?” Bosnich told SEN Afternoons.

“The answers to those questions need to be a little more detailed than putting out a general statement.

“I would say to these people, especially the ones at the FFA: You go play a game on it and see how you go. Because the bottom line is your product is the actual sport.

“I spoke to players from both sides and they said to me that it was dangerous and all they were thinking about was not getting injured.

“We want to know what the parameters are, because you’re telling us that the parameters in this country are for it to allow top-level football to be played on that ground – that needs to change.”

The former Socceroo says no more A-League games should be played at the SCG for the rest of the year.
