Man City back ahead of Liverpool in Premier League race

Manchester City bounced back from their Champions League disappointment by exacting revenge on Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

City were dumped from Europe’s premier club competition in midweek by virtue of the away goal rule despite beating Spurs 4-3 in the second leg and having an injury-time goal overturned by the VAR.

To add to the drama, the two clubs were pitted together in the Premier League just days after the Champions League classic and it was Pep Guardiola’s City who did the damage on Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs, returning to the top of the table.

18-year-old Phil Foden scored his first Premier League goal for City in the 1-0 win, becoming the first player born in the 2000s to score in England’s top flight. He also became City’s third youngest scorer in the league.

The three points allowed City to leapfrog Liverpool who they now sit one point clear of with four matches remaining.

The Reds are in action on Monday morning (1am AEST) against Cardiff City in Wales as they seek to reclaim their two-point lead over City as the Premier League race continues to go down to the wire.
