02 May Gallop comments on Stajcic's A-League appointment
Football Federation Australia CEO David Gallop is happy to see former Matildas boss Alen Stajcic land a permanent coaching role in the A-League.
Stajcic, 45, was appointed as the full-time coach of the Central Coast Mariners on a three-year deal after assuming the role on an interim basis in March.
His Matildas contract was controversially terminated by the FFA in January, just months out from the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France.
Gallop maintains the decision to replace Stajcic with Ante Milicic ahead of the showpiece event was the right one.
“For him (Stajcic) to have a coaching job is a good thing,” Gallop told SEN’s Whateley.
“We very much still believe that we made the right change for the Matildas.
“They played really well in the Cup of Nations … you see them come off the field and the comments that they made are that they’re really enjoying the change.
“Of course it was difficult, it was difficult for Alen (Stajcic) and it was difficult for us … but it was time for a change and for him to have a job is a good thing as well.”
The Matildas face Italy in their World Cup opener on June 9 at the Stade du Hainaut, Valenciennes.
