03 May Victory marquee star Honda makes call on future
Melbourne Victory marquee player Keisuke Honda has confirmed he plans on departing the club at the end of the season.
Honda, 32, signed a one-year deal with the Victory last August in what was a major coup for the A-League.
The Japanese superstar revealed he doesn't intend on extending his contract once it expires at season's end.
“I still don’t decide where I will play next year. But as I mentioned, I knew that I would stay for just (one) year," Honda told Fox Sports.
“So I hope no-one is surprised, no-one (is) disappointed.
“I want to say I’m grateful to all the supporters of Melbourne Victory and even the fans of the other competitors."
Ahead of tonight’s Elimination Final against the Wellington Phoenix, Honda is eager to bow out by helping the Victory to another A-League title.
“Of course we all really want to win this Grand Final. I feel a bit like revenge because we couldn’t become (minor) champions,” he said.
“I want to be happy with all players and supporters.”
Honda has registered seven goals and five assists in 18 A-League appearances after missing a large portion of the season with a hamstring injury.
