18 May Report: Muscat to stand down as Melbourne Victory coach
Kevin Muscat will quit as Melbourne Victory coach after their final Asian Champions League match against Sanfrecce Hiroshima on Wednesday, according to The Age.
The report states that Muscat has notified the club’s hierarchy of his decision to step aside to freshen up for the next chapter in his managerial career, despite being under contract for another year.
It would end Muscat’s 15-year association with the A-League powerhouse having captained the club in its inaugural season in 2005/06.
Melbourne finished its 2018/19 campaign in disastrous fashion courtesy of a 6-1 hammering to rivals Sydney FC in last Sunday’s Preliminary Final.
Muscat, 45, led the Victory to two titles as a player in 2007 and 2009 and two as head coach in 2015 and 2018.
The former Socceroos midfield has assumed the role since October 2013.
