Chelsea crowned Europa League champions

Chelsea has thrashed Arsenal to win its second Europa League title, handing Blues boss Maurizio Sarri his first major trophy.

In what was almost certainly his final game for Chelsea, Eden Hazard, who looks certain to join Real Madrid, scored twice as the Blues won 4-1 in Baku.

Former Gunner Oliver Giroud opened the scoring four minutes after half-time when he headed home Emerson's cross.

The Blues doubled their lead 11 minutes later when Pedro's left-foot strike was too good for Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech.

The situation went from bad to worse for the Gunners just five minutes later when the Blues won a penalty. Hazard's spot kick sent Cech the wrong way.

Arsenal got one goal back on 69 minutes when Chelsea failed to deal with a corner. Alex Iwobi, who had only just replaced Lucas Torreira, sent a dipping shot into the far corner with the outside of his boot.

Any thoughts of another miracle comeback were scuppered moments later when Hazard got on the end of a lovely Giroud cross to make it a brace.

Chelsea lifted the Europa League trophy for the first time in 2012-13, and they have now won six European titles.

Speaking to BT Sport, Chelsea forward Eden Hazard said: "It was good. I think both teams were playing with a bit of stress in the first half because it was a final, but when Olivier scored, it was the beginning of a great night.

"We played well and controlled the game and I'm happy to leave this trophy with the boys. The manager said to carry on playing football at the break and today we showed our mentality."

The Belgian added: "I think it's goodbye, but you never know."
