Melbourne Victory veteran extends stay, foreign signings depart

Melbourne Victory utility Leigh Broxham has put pen to paper on a fresh contract extension.

Broxham, 31, re-signed for a further two seasons, tying him to the club until at least the end of the 2020/2021 season.

The experienced utility debuted in Round 19 of the 2006/07 campaign has gone on to win four Championships, three Premierships, an FFA Cup and became the Victory’s games record holder with 354 appearances.

“I’m pleased to commit to the club for two more seasons and thankful for the support they’ve shown – and continue to show – me,” Broxham told melbournevictory.com.au.

“It goes without saying how much Melbourne Victory means to me, and with some changes and fresh approaches under new leadership next season, I remain as motivated as ever to contribute to what the club wants to achieve both on and off the field.”

Melbourne also confirmed the departures of Raúl Baena, Jai Ingham and Georg Niedermeier.

Baena, 30, will return to Spain after making 24 appearances across all competitions in his solitary season.

German defender Niedermeier made 19 appearances after joining from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg.

The Victory are also on the look out for a new coach following the resignation of Kevin Muscat.
