Italy levelled things up at the 56th minute after a Matildas turnover gave them an opening.
The deadlock wouldn’t be broken until the 95th minute when the Italians headed in the winner from a corner kick.
It was a tough loss for the Matildas who now face a tough task to get out of Group C.
