Dual Premier League winner turns down A-League move

Former Arsenal and Manchester City star Samir Nasri has rejected the chance to join A-League newcomers Western United.

According to the Herald Sun, United had the Frenchman at the top of their wish list ahead of the club's inaugural season.

The two-time Premier League winner is a free agent after being released by West Ham United.

Nasri’s agent, Alain Migliaccio, says a financial agreement with the Australian club couldn’t be reached.

“In Europe the clubs pay high sums for players (like Nasri) but in Australia it’s not the same,” Migliaccio told The World Game.

“They don’t have the (sizeable) TV money and the big sponsorships.

“At first Sami was interested in going to Australia and was happy to discuss whether it could happen or not.

“But, after assessing everything, it’s just not possible.

“We spoke with the president at Western United but we’re not able to move forward with this.”

Nasri, 31, won 41 caps for France before retiring from international football in 2014.
