26 Jun Is David Gallop’s position as FFA CEO under threat?
FFA CEO David Gallop is being questioned internally over his role in the sacking of former Matildas coach Alen Stajcic, according to Herald Sun journalist David Davutovic
Gallop was integral in the shock dismissal of Stajcic less than five months before Australia’s Women’s World Cup campaign in France.
Under new boss Ante Milicic, the Matildas were eliminated by Norway at the Round of 16 stage – their worst performance at a World Cup since 2003.
When asked whether Gallop’s job was safe on SEN’s KB and The Doc, Davutovic replied: “I wouldn’t have thought so.
“I think off the back of this Matildas fiasco, I think there will be some serious questions asked of him by the FFA Board.
“His contract was extended by the previous board just before the Lowy-led board stepped down. I think he’s got over a year left.
“I think at the moment the amount of damage that has been done by the Matildas saga and some of the other goings on at FFA means that serious questions have to be asked and my understanding is they are being asked.”
Gallop defended the decision to remove Stajcic maintaining the decision was made to give the Matildas the best chance of succeeding at the tournament.
The former NRL boss has been in the role since November 2012.
