“I’d jump at it”: Muscat throws hat in the ring for Millwall job

Kevin Muscat has openly expressed his interest in the vacant managerial job at former club Millwall.

The Championship outfit are searching for a new boss following the resignation of Neil Harris with Socceroos legend and former Millwall teammate Tim Cahill reportedly on the club's radar.

Muscat made 60 appearances for the Lions between 2003 and 2005 and captained the side to the 2004 FA Cup Final, but missed the 3-0 loss to Manchester United through injury.

Without work since stepping down as Melbourne Victory coach after a decorated 14-year stint, the 46-year-old would jump at the opportunity to return to The Den.

“At this point in time they haven’t got a manager and I’m looking for work so read between the lines – I’m available,” Muscat said at the launch of Football Nation.

“I haven’t spoken to anybody yet. I’ve got ambitions to be a career coach and if that becomes an opportunity, I’d jump at it.”

Under caretaker boss Adam Barrett, Millwall picked up a shock 2-1 victory over promotion-chasing Leeds United last time out, to snap an eight-game winless run in all competitions.

The Lions sit 15th with 14 points from 11 starts.

Muscat also reiterated his ambition to coach the Socceroos in the future.

“As a player it was the most humbling experience; the biggest honour to represent my country,” Muscat said.

“I’ll work away over the next few years to be able to put myself in a position where one day I do manage the national team.”

Muscat made 46 appearances for the Socceroos between 1994 and 2006.
