The “proud” aspect of Tyler’s iconic Premier League call

Sergio Aguero’s last-gasp title-clinching goal for Manchester City on the final day of the 2011/2012 season will go down in football folklore.

Aguero’s strike deep into stoppage time saw City pip arch-rivals Manchester United on goal difference to the Premier League title in the most dramatic circumstances.

It was the Sky Blues’ first league title in 44 years and legendary broadcaster Martin Tyler delivered one of the most iconic pieces of commentary amid the bedlam inside the stadium.

“That’s where the love for the game comes in, the understanding of the moment really,” Tyler told SEN’s Bob and Andy.

“I’m as proud of the silence in there as I am of the words to be honest with … I wouldn’t have been heard I’d spoken.

“Mark Hughes, who was the manager of Queens Park Rangers with a wonderful playing career and managerial career as well, said it was nosiest moment in a football ground he can ever remember.

“And it should be, because it’s a one-off. I think most commentators would hope in their career they get one of those, and that was mine.”

Aguero and Edin Dzeko both scored in stoppage time in the 3-2 win over 10-men QPR after United had one hand on the trophy following their 1-0 win over Sunderland.
