Liverpool edge Arsenal in a stunning showdown

Liverpool are through to the Carabao Cup (English League Cup) quarter finals after beating Arsenal in an incredible game at Anfield.

The match ended with a remarkable 5-5 draw, followed by a 5-4 penalty shoot-out which saw the Reds win in one of the most entertaining games of the season.

Juergen Klopp and Unai Emery changed their entire lineups from the weekend's Premier League action, each making 11 changes – a decision that resulted in some of the younger support acts shine in the stirring clash.

18-year-old Curtis Jones – who was making his debut at Anfield – scored the winning spot-kick that saw Liverpool break the hearts of Arsenal fans everywhere.
Meanwhile, another 18-year-old in Gabriel Martinelli was impressive, scoring twice for the Gunners.

Liverpool’s victory ultimately came down to their young Irish Keeper, Caoimhín Kelleher, who stopped Dani Ceballos from scoring after both sides made their first three shootout attempts.

It was a full house at Anfield and the crowd was understandably deafening, Liverpool cheers no doubt drowning out the cries of shattered Arsenal fans.

Fascinatingly, this was only the second time Liverpool have ever conceded five goals in a home match in the last 66 years.

The Reds have won the Carabao Cup a record eight times and they remain on course to lift the trophy for the first time since 2012.

In other news, Manchester United have beaten Chelsea 2-1 courtesy of a stunning Marcus Rashford free-kick while Aston Villa edged Wolves 2-1.
