08 Nov Rogic, uncapped midfielder named in Socceroos squad for crucial World Cup qualifier
Socceroos coach Graham Arnold has named his 24-man squad for next week’s vital 2022 World Cup qualifier against Jordan.
Tom Rogic has been named despite the midfielder’s omission from Celtic’s squad for their Europa League match against Lazio.
“All the information we’ve got, Tommy is ready to play,” Arnold said.
“He’s been playing great. If there’s any pull-outs over the weekend, we will have to replace them.”
Uncapped Barnsley midfielder Kenny Dougall and Hibernian forward Martin Boyle received call ups for the trip to Amman.
Trent Sainsbury and Josh Risdon also return to bolster Australia’s defence after the pair didn’t feature in the wins over Nepal and Taiwan.
Australia’s 1-0 Asian Cup loss to Jordan was the third defeat in five matches against their Asian counterparts.
“The past is the past, we can’t help the past,” Arnold said.
“There’s only four or five players that were in the last game that played in Jordan. The coaching staff is new.
“We will set our focus on what we have to do to win this game … the weather’s going to be beautiful, the pitch beautiful, so no excuses.”
Australia have won their three opening games and sit two points clear of Jordan at the top of Group B.
One player is to be omitted from the squad.
Australia’s 24-man squad for the trip to Jordan:
Aziz Behich, Brandon Borrello, Martin Boyle, Milos Degenek, Kenny Dougall, Adam Federici, Apostolos Giannou, Craig Goodwin, Rhyan Grant, Ajdin Hrustic, Jackson Irvine, James Jeggo, Mathew Leckie, Awer Mabil, Aaron Mooy, Andrew Redmayne, Josh Risdon, Mat Ryan, Tom Rogic, Trent Sainsbury, Brad Smith, Harry Souttar, Adam Taggart, Bailey Wright.
