24 Nov Rudan calls for VAR officials to publicly explain their decisions
Western United coach Mark Rudan has called for VAR officials to publicly explain their decisions.
His comments come after his side were on the wrong end of two dubious handball penalty calls during their 1-0 loss to Central Coast Mariners on Sunday.
Western Sydney Wanderers coach Markus Babbel’s VAR criticism weren’t as measured after he went on an expletive-laden rant after his side failed to be awarded a penalty on Friday night.
Rudan called for officials who are “hiding in a box somewhere” to be given a platform to explain the process behind their decisions.
"I'd love a please explain," Rudan said post-match.
"It's important that if us coaches and players are out in the public, making comments like this and sitting here, it's important the people who sit out in that VAR room come out.
"I would love some clarification on what is and what isn't and I think the people who are making these decisions, who are hiding in a box somewhere in the country, need to come out and publicly explain each incident.
"The coaches, the players and the fans can (then) understand exactly what warrants a penalty and what doesn't."
Western United currently sit in fifth spot on the ladder, six points behind Melbourne City.
They host second-place Sydney FC on Sunday on the back of two consecutive losses for the first time in club history.
