Bayern Munich striker's ridiculous scoring streak

Robert Lewandowski continued his rich vein of scoring form by helping himself to a quadruple in the UEFA Champions League overnight.

The Polish striker netted four times as Bayern Munich defeated Serbian club Red Star Belgrade 6-0 away from home to assert their dominance on Group B where they comfortably sit atop, five points clear of Tottenham with one fixture remaining.

Lewandowski kicked off his night in the 53rd minute when converting from the penalty spot before adding goals in the 60th, 64th and 67th minutes to complete his quadrella in just 14 minutes.

It was the fastest four-goal haul in Champions League history.

He has also become just the second player, joining Lionel Messi, to score four or more goals on two occasions in the Champions League. (He also scored four for Borussia Dortmund against Real Madrid in the 2013 semi-final).

Adding to that, the 31-year-old has so far fired home 51 goals in 53 games for both club and country in this calendar year 2019 and has become just the fifth player in history to reach 60 Champions League goals behind Raul, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

He has also surpassed Thomas Muller as the leading scorer for Bayern in Europe’s elite competition with 45 goals.

Just this season for Bayern Munich, Lewandowski has scored:

  • 10 goals in five Champions League games
  • 16 goals in 12 Bundesliga games
  • 27 goals total in 20 appearances in all competitions (incl. 1 in the German Cup)
  • 4 goals in six internationals
