Socceroos plan to “shock the world” at Copa America

Australia can “shock the world” at the 2020 Copa America, according to head coach Graham Arnold.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Chile await the Socceroos who, along with Qatar, were invited to participate in the tournament from outside South America.

Despite the enormity of the task at hand, a bullish Arnold has high expectations for his side following today’s draw in Colombia.

Arnold said: “Why can’t we shock the world?”

“We go in there expecting to win all the games. I never think any different of any game no matter who we put in the yellow shirt of Australia.

“We’ve got Argentina lined up in our sights. Nothing will be different.

“Why can’t we shock the world and beat Argentina in their own country? That’s the purpose and the expectation.”

Australia’s opening match is against Uruguay on June 13, a rematch of the famous World Cup play-off in 2005.

Australia's Copa America group stage fixtures:

13 June 2020: Australia v Uruguay in Cordoba
