16 Dec Socceroos star creates A-League history
In-form striker Jamie Maclaren has etched himself into the A-League history books.
Maclaren became the fastest player to hit the 10-goal mark in an A-League season – taking the Melbourne City star just six games to reach double figures.
The Socceroos marksman’s goal in City’s 4-0 thrashing of the Newcastle Jets on Sunday took him to 20 for the season for both club and country.
“I was kicking myself at half-time because Javier (Cabrera) played a great ball in the first half and I didn’t make that front post run,” Maclaren said post-game.
“For my goal, though, he crossed it to the near post and I got ahead of Lachy (Jackson) and that’s what I’m meant to do is get in front of the defender.
“I made up for my error in the first half and that’s all I can do.”
City sit five points behind reigning champions Sydney FC in second place ahead of Saturday’s Melbourne Derby against the Victory at AAMI Park.
