A-League club Melbourne City has pulled off a significant coup by signing Markel Susaeta.
City have confirmed the capture of the Spaniard who has joined for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.
Susaeta, 32, is a quality, speedy forward who has over 500 appearances for Athletic Bilbao to his name as well as a recent stint in Japan with Gamba Osaka. He last played in Spain’s La Liga in May.
“I’m excited to be joining Melbourne City for the rest of the season and can’t wait to get started in Australia,” he told melbournecityfc.com.au.
“I’m hoping I can help the group play the exciting, attacking football the Club prides itself on and achieve the success the group has set out at the start of the season.”
The addition of the once-capped Spain international provides a massive boost for City’s A-League title hopes. They currently sit second on the table, 11 points in arrears of Sydney FC.
Susaeta could debut for his new club against the bottom-placed Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park on Saturday, pending visa approval.
