20 Jan “Best in the world”: Liverpool extend unbeaten run past 1000 days as PL title beckons
Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to a whopping 16 points courtesy of a 2-0 win over Manchester United at Anfield.
Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah saw Jurgen Klopp’s men extend their run of Premier League wins to 13 and make it 1001 days since their last home defeat.
Still with a game in hand, it’s inevitable the unbeaten Reds will be crowned champions of England for the first time since 1990.
Their record of 21 wins and one draw is the best ever after 22 games in Europe’s top five leagues with club great Jamie Carragher hailing Liverpool as the world’s best team.
"Everyone in the country is going to think that's the Premier League won," Carragher told Sky Sports post-game.
"This is a phenomenal team. They are the best in the league, the best in Europe and the best in the world at the moment."
Liverpool could have the chance of clinching the title at Merseyside rivals Everton on 14 March or at reigning champions Manchester City on April 4, depending on future results.
Manchester United hold the record for the earliest Premier League title win in 2000/2001, securing the trophy on 14 April.
