30 Jan Mooy “wouldn’t look out of place” among EPL's elite: Socceroos legend
Aaron Mooy has just made his loan deal with Brighton and Hove Albion permanent, but Socceroos legend Mark Schwarzer believes he wouldn’t look out of place among the Premier League’s elite.
Mooy, 29, joined the Seagulls for a meagre fee of just £5 million (A$9.6m) during the January transfer window having been on loan from Championship club Huddersfield.
The midfielder has been a standout performer for Graham Potter’s side in a topsy-turvy campaign that has them positioned just two points above the relegation zone.
Speaking on Optus Sport’s Two Sharp Reds’ podcast, Schwarzer believes there’s no reason why Mooy couldn’t cut it in a ‘Big Six’ Premier League midfield.
“His reading of the game is far superior than a lot of other players,” he said.
“He wouldn’t look out of place in a Chelsea or Liverpool midfield.”
Mooy, who signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Brighton, has two goals and an assist in 17 matches this campaign.
