12 Mar Matildas qualify for Tokyo Olympics
The Matildas have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics after easing past Vietnam 7-1 on aggregate.
Australia coupled their 5-0 first-leg win in Newcastle with a hard-fought 2-1 victory behind closed doors in Cam Pha on Wednesday AEDT.
No fans were allowed to attend the game because of coronavirus with bad lighting inside the stadium delaying kick-off by 20 minutes.
Sam Kerr and Hayley Raso netted first-half goals for the Matildas, sealing their second straight Olympics qualification.
New Zealand, Brazil, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, USA and Zambia are the other countries to have qualified.
Women’s football at the Olympics will be held between July 22 and August 8 in seven venues across six Japanese cities.
